Happy New Year! We are kicking 2017 off with a brand new website and social media update blog post. A lot has happened in the past few weeks in the social media world. Keep reading to find out what you might have missed during the busy holiday season.

Facebook:

As per usual, Facebook has the most updates.

  • Facebook has released a brand new feature very subtly – auto-subtitling for videos to Pages. The function is enabled through voice recognition, however, Pages and marketers are able to manually edit the subtitles.
  • Not necessarily a direct update to Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg revealed his new year resolution for 2017. He hopes to travel to every state to learn how Americans are living and working. Perhaps, his new year resolution will help him determine new changes for Facebook throughout the coming years.
  • Facebook starts sharing “Moments” at the top of the newsfeed. No, this isn’t the same Moments app that pulls up photos and statuses from years ago. These moments are an attempt by Facebook to enable users to share more content relating to holidays or events.
  • Facebook is updating Mentions to give its top publishers the opportunity to schedule and edit broadcasts.
  • Facebook has launched Live Audio Broadcasts. On it, you can expect to find news and discussions.
  • Facebook is going to start rolling out a new change to status updates. Users on Android devices will now have the ability to change the color behind their status update.
  • Finally, Facebook Messenger is enabling users to participate in a group video call.

Twitter:

  • Twitter signed a deal with the PGA Tour to stream 70 hours of live competition. The partnership will begin on January 19th.

 Snapchat:

  • Snapchat entered a partnership with Disney-ABC Television Group to broadcast a watch party during The Bachelor. The episodes will appear on Snapchat the morning after the Bachelor airs. They will be between three and five minutes long.
