It is time for another social media update! Surprisingly, Facebook does not have the most updates this week. Here’s what’s new in the social media world:

Instagram:

  • In less than a year, Instagram jumped from 500 million users to 700 million users. The growth rate for the platform is speeding up. It took four months for Instagram to go from 600 million to 700 million. However, to reach 600 million from 500 million, it took six months.

Facebook:

  • Facebook is listening to users’ concerns of people stealing others’ videos and uploading them to their own Facebook page to get the engagement and audience growth. Now, you can claim ad earnings on those videos, if you own them.

Twitter:

  • Twitter is working to air live video content 24/7. Currently, it has the rights to stream a few live shows from Bloomberg, Buzzfeed, and sports.

LinkedIn:

  • LinkedIn has announced that it has over 500 million users. They added 33 million new members in the last six months.

Snapchat:

  • Snapchat is making it easier than ever for brands to buy geofilter ads. Prior to this new update, advertisers purchased branded geofilters through Snapchat’s buying tool. Now, Snapchat enabled brands to purchase the geofilters automatically.
  • Snapchat has changed the way that photos from Memories will be shared on the app. Now, the white border will not show up if you share a photo that is older than 24 hours. However, this change is not applicable for photos you share from the camera roll, as those will still have the white border around it.
