Email Marketing Statistics, Facts, Trends, and More

With dozens of popular marketing channels, brands often overlook the importance of email marketing. While email may seem ancient compared to some of the newer marketing mediums, this form of marketing is not only proven to work, but it is only expected to increase in popularity.

Here are some email marketing statistics and facts you need to know for your marketing campaign.

3 Email Marketing Statistics You Should Know

The Email Marketing Market is Rapidly Increasing

According to a survey conducted by Statista, the global email marketing market was valued at $7.5 billion in 2020 and this number is expected to increase 139% to $17.9 billion by 2027.

Segmented Campaigns Increase Revenue

Campaign Monitor found that the use of segmented emails was overall more beneficial for both marketers and consumers. Consumers are more likely to engage due to the more relevant and personalized information found in segmented emails, and brands that use this in their marketing strategy see about a 760% increase in revenue.

Email Marketing Engagement is Rising

Not only is the market increasing, but email marketing engagement is also on the rise. The HubSpot 2021 Marketing Report claims that 80% of marketers have seen a rise in email engagement over the last year—and this is only expected to increase.

Email Marketing by the Generation

Despite the obvious generational differences, all four generations check their email more than 50% of the time.

  • Baby Boomers (1946 – 1964): As one of the oldest generations controlling the market, 74% of Baby Boomers believe that email is the strongest channel to receive communication from brands.
  • Generation X (1965 – 1976): With a 2% decrease from Baby Boomers, 72% of Generation X enjoys receiving email marketing from brands.
  • Millennials (1977 – 1995): While only 64% of Millennials believe email marketing from brands is the most personal, they are the most active generation, with 74.9% checking their email multiple times per day.
  • Gen Z (1996 – 2015): Although Gen Z is the youngest generation, they are projected to hold more than a quarter of global income by 2030. In fact, by 2031, they will surpass Millennials’ spending power—meaning this is one generation marketers should be paying attention to. Right below Millennials, 60% of Gen Z values email marketing, with 58% checking their email multiple times per day.
