Google has been working on improving Google Analytics over the past decade. This past month, the technology powerhouse released an update to the desktop user interface of Google Analytics. Below is what you will start seeing in the new interface.

  1. Simplistic. The navigation bar has been completed redesigned to fit with Google’s Material Design. One, simplified navigation bar will help you find the reports you need. The “Home Customization Reporting Admin” subheader bar was completed removed in favor of an admin button at the bottom of the main menu. Another notable change is that the navigation bar can be resized.
  2. Customizable. Prior to the update, customization items could be found in various parts of Google Analytics. Now, all of the customization items have been placed in a “Customization” navigation button.
  3. Organized. Now, it is easier than ever to switch views from any page in Google Analytics. You can easily switch between accounts, properties & apps, and views all with a simple click to the top navigation bar.
  4. Streamlined. You don’t have to worry about loosing the spot you were in if you need to log out of Google Analytics for the day. The updated version will automatically take you to the last View you were looking at before logging out.
  5. Adjustable. The date range is adjustable and can be changed in the user settings. Google Analytics recommends that you view campaigns on a 7-day basis because the impact of campaign changes is more visible on a shorter timeline than a 30-day view. Thus, the default view is set to 7 days for standard users.
  6. Consolidated. Google Analytics has consolidated and recycled some pages. Custom alerts moved to the “Customization” bar. Automatic Intelligence Events have been removed completely. The page will be recycled to an automated insights feature from Google Analytics Assistant. The In-Page Analytics is removed from the Google Analytics web platform. However, you are still able to access the analytics with the Chrome Extension.
