It is amazing how quickly technology changes. If you are struggling to keep up with all of the updates, that is why we have created this weekly social media blog.

Facebook

  • Over 200 million people are using the Facebook Lite app each month. The technology powerhouse is growing its user base daily. The app is a stripped-down version of the traditional phone app. The purpose is to provide its service to people who have inexpensive phones and a low-speed internet connection.
  • Facebook is making a conscious effort to remove and prohibit biased ads on its platform. They have recently updated the ad policies and are testing an automated system to identify controversial ads.
  • In the hopes of providing relevant information to its user base, Facebook is incorporating and expanding a weather tool. It will offer personalization and notification features.
  • Mark Zuckerberg visited the Oculus Research Lab. The purpose of the visit was for Zuckerberg and the Oculus VR owner to test new ways to incorporate users’ hands in virtual reality settings.

Twitter

  • Similar to other platforms, Twitter is working to prevent and minimize the impact of offensive content. They enabled a new safe search feature for Twitter users using the web.

Snapchat

  • Snapchat has hired a security expert. Laurent Balmelli has worked at IBM and founded many tech startups, including Strong.Codes. The startup provides tools to prevent software code from being reverse engineered.

YouTube

  • YouTube has incorporated live streaming on the desktop version of the site since 2011. However, it is now bringing out the feature to smartphones. It will roll out to YouTube creators with more than 10,000 subscribers first.
  • YouTube announced on Wednesday that there was a mistake with its system. When people unsubscribed from a channel, they counted it as two instead of one. Many YouTube creators noticed their subscriber counts drop by over 100,000 people. YouTube has not currently fixed the problem, but is working on a solution.

Pinterest

  • Pinterest launched a beta version of a new tool called Visual Discovery. This will enable pinners to take a photo of something they like and find things similar to that on sale. As this is the beta version, the lens works on home décor, apparel, and food.
