Watch out Craigslist, Facebook has launched Marketplace, which rivals some of your service offerings! This new feature integrates the social network into an e-Commerce shopping resource for users to buy and sell things. Marketplace will be directly integrated into the Facebook app by replacing the messenger button, thus increasing the reach and usage of the shopping center.
Approximately ¼ of everyone on Facebook visits buy and sell group pages every month! So that means that about 450 million people will automatically benefit from the organized shopping hub. Marketplace works by searching based on category, location, and price. If you are moving to a different area or willing to travel for a great product, you are able to change the location that you’re looking at.
Once you’ve entered everything in you are able to view the image, more details from the seller, information about them, and their location. Another option that is available is saving the item to view later. After you’ve decided to pursue the product, you’re able to send a direct message to the seller. Facebook does not assist with the payment or delivery process within the app; it is up to the seller and buyer to negotiate it themselves.
Buyers have a few options available to them. First, they need to select a photo of the item. After, they provide a product name, description, price, location, and category. If the buyer is a member of a specific buy and sell group, they have the option to post to the group and Marketplace at the same time.
Marketplace is currently available in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand on the Facebook App. Facebook is working on making the shopping hub available on the desktop version in the next few months.
